THE UNITED BUSINESS CENTER TOWER OFFICE BUILDING DEVELOPED BY THE IULIUS COMPANY IN CLUJ-NAPOCA WAS AWARDED THE LEED GOLD CERTIFICATE

The United Business Center (UBC) Tower class A office building developed by the IULIUS Company in Cluj-Napoca was recently awarded the LEED® Gold certificate by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as per the LEED 2009 New Construction and Major Renovations.
UBC Tower is located in the immediate vicinity of Iulius Mall Cluj. The office building was opened in the autumn of 2014 and has a 10,000 sqm total area spanning on 11 floors. The certification process included both the period during which the construction works have been conducted and the first few years of operation which are essential for assessing building sustainability. UBC Tower earned the LEED Gold certification for the implementation of practical and measurable strategies and solutions geared towards obtaining an enhanced performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. In addition to this, the employees conducting their activities in the UBC Tower office premises are encouraged to choose non-polluting means of transportation, the building being fitted with bicycle parking racks, as well as with showers and changing rooms at the underground floor of the building.
Iulius Mall Cluj and the Iulius Business Center office building, located in the immediate vicinity, are also LEED certified.
All the projects of the IULIUS Company are developed in accordance with international sustainability standards. Three IULIUS projects are currently pending green building certification, namely the Palas Iași project (as per the LEED Neighborhood Development standard), the UBC 5 office building located in the aforementioned urban project, as well as UBC 2, the first class A office building in the Openville mixed-use project developed by the company in Timișoara. In addition to Iulius Mall Cluj, all the three other shopping malls developed under the same brand in Timișoara, Iași and Suceava earned LEED certificates for their performances in terms of sustainable operation and resources saving.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
